Matariki
Matariki is a time for
remembering those who have passed, planting new crops and celebrating new
beginnings. Sharing a meal is an
important part of these celebrations. On Wednesday we are going to have a Matariki day in the Marama pod, celebrating with our friends, including having a healthy shared lunch. As we learn about the Matariki celebrations, it would be wonderful to hear about some of the celebrations you participate in at home. Share below a celebration your family participates in and any
traditions you may have associated with that celebration. Remember to comment in full sentences and sign off with your name.

Our Waiata
We are going to Kirikiriroa Marae on Thursday to experience being part of a powhiri and learn about the different areas of the marae. We will also get to do some fun activities like learning how to use the maori rakau weapon. Make sure you practice these waiata at home so you are super confident when we sing them at the marae during the powhiri!
Ehara i te mea,
Nō nāianei te aroha,
Nō nga tūpuna,
Tuku iho,
Tuku iho
Marae Protocol
Below is a link to a booklet that has some great information and explanations about the protocols of the Marae.
You might find it interesting to read, particularly the part about the powhiri.
