What's going on in this picture?

I have been asking you lots of questions around giving me more details either when answering questions in reading, or when writing your setting and character descriptions. To practise finding details, look at the picture below and answer these three questions.

What is going on in this picture?
What do you see that makes you say that?

What more can you find?

Write your answers in the comments, write in full sentences, think about Who, What, Where, Why, How details and tell me as much as possible. You can also respectfully comment on, or refer to, other people’s answers. You might agree with them and add more detail to support their answers or you might have another opinion that you can support with other reasons.

Who is in the picture? What are they doing? What are they feeling? Where are they going? Where have they been? Why are they going there? Why had they been there? Why are they feeling that way? How did this happen? Don't forget your conjunction "BECAUSE". I think they are going away from the beach because ... (including evidence from the picture).

For example, Bob might say he thinks these people are happy to be here because they appear to be walking casually, Sarah might say she thinks they are unhappy because they are all bowing their heads, looking at the ground. As long as you can justify your comments, there are no wrong answers. This is a details finding exercise.

The actual caption was:
Swimmers walked across a beach covered by seaweed in Qingdao, in eastern China. Beaches in Qingdao have been plagued by seaweed from the Yellow Sea the last several summers.
The Times reports about the algae bloom in this article, writing:
In what has become an annual summer scourge, the coastal Chinese city of Qingdao has been hit by a near-record algae bloom that has left its popular beaches fouled with a green, stringy muck.
The State Oceanic Administration said an area larger than Connecticut had been affected by the mat of “sea lettuce,” as it is known in Chinese, which is generally harmless to humans but chokes off marine life and invariably chases away tourists as it begins to rot.
Some beachgoers appeared to be amused by the outbreak, at least according to the Chinese news media, which in recent days have featured images of swimmers lounging on bright green beds of algae, tossing it around with glee or piling it atop of one another as if it were sand.
Local officials, however, are less enthusiastic.

  2. I think in this photo there is a group of friends heading home but they are feeling down in the dumps and is disillusioned because there facing the ground. The reason is because there is NO room for then to relax and to swim at the beach because everyone had the same idea to go there so they are leaving. It was the worst time to do that because it was scorching hot in the afternoon on the week so they thought they had a chance but...... no. Behind them you can see other family's and friends having fun on the beach and paddling in the water while others trying to entertain there self's and others with no space on the beach at all.

  3. I think that in this photo is about 7 people with big inflated o's and they're heading to the beach but instead they are going the wrong way | in between the first and second people there is a guy that looks to be in tetotara uniform | far far in the back ground there are some buildings and there is a big mountion. 4. What is going on in this picture? I think that a family of six is coming home from a day at the beach. but they are all up set because there dad has had enough, so he tells everyone to pack up that is why he is in the front of the line because he wants to leave but he's frowning because he's wife is not talking to him she's at the back of the line. What do you see to make you say that? I say that because there are six people walking back from the beach with a frown on their face and there carrying beach objects. What more can you find? It looks like it's some where around a city, and the bottom bit of land is a beach and the top is could be a camping ground. And it's a common beach because there are lots of people there. By Emily

  5. 7 friends at the beach. It looks like that there was 7 friends at the beach and they were having so much fun with there floating biscuit, but the only problem was it was too busy and way too loud but the saddest thing was they have been planning to go to the Beach for about 3 weeks so they were just going home and doing something boring.

  6. This picture shows 7 friends who have come back from the beach. It appears they aren't wet, so I would think it was too crowded, just like behind them. Alot of others also carry these doughnut-looking floaties so I suggest it could be some sort of event. I think this was held in China because you can see some kind of wall like The Great Wall Of China behind them. By Cooper.

  7. There are 6 friends at the beach. It looks like the 6 friend have had lots of fun with there floaty rings, playing and splashing in the water until all of a sudden all these people arrived from the city and the beach very loud and crowded. The friends then had no room to play in the water so decided to go home but they were sad to leave but all said they would come back another day. By Charlotte

  13. i think these people look sad because there were way to many people on the beach so they didnt get to swim.

I think this because they were waking away from the beach very sadly like they missed out on doing something.

I can find its somewhere like Japan were the story was based and that the beach was packed with people.

  14. I think this family of 7 is stepping every step into this lime green mossy squashy seaweed and have came back from a tiering but also fun wet swim , puffing all the way back to their car like they want to come back home and just sleep for 48 hours . Why do I think this well the facial expressions on their face look like they have just gone for a swim and now are flicking the seaweed up so that's what I can see . What I can find is that there is a lot of people going through the same thing as this family . By Kelly

  15. This is my story that I believe of what happened so it was a really hot day and this family felt as if they were roasted like turkey, they thought that they should go to the beach. They dug their feet into the warm runny golden sand. This family saw a humongous crowd and tried pushing through the crowd but they were as hard as rock. So the family failed they tried another plan wait for a spot to appear and one did but a man filled in the spot. Plan 1... failed Plan 2... failed, they're such failures. They were heading home like it was the end of the world and all of a sudden it turned grey... completely they had their heads drooped down staring at the grass, the last lady was kicking the grass as something was completely wrong. They looked as if somebody killed their cat. Everyone was entertained cheerful and energetic all except one family. The family was home bored and unhappy. By Sama

  17. It looks as if it is a hot summer's day and they have been to the beach, in or by the city. As their feet go squish on the ground they lug their inflatable swimming rings behind them. In the family of seven, there are two boys and five girls. They have been to the beach but did not go swimming because they are not wet. Maybe it was too cold or there was no room left on the beach. They are not happy!

  19. whats going on in the picture?on a boiling hot summer day a family/group of friends are heading home from the beach. they all are tired and exhausted from a huge day at the beach.
my other idea would be..... its a hot summer day and
they are in the line for a hydra slide and the line was HUGE they were waiting there for minutes, hours!
    and only slightly moving.
in the line behind them walking the other direction are coming of the hydro slide with evidence of mud by their feet.
